Edward Lee Helms, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Helms, 703 Hamilton street, drowned yesterday afternoon in a fish pond near the home of Arthur Shirley, 1015 South Evans street, where he was visiting. The body is located between the Shirley home and the Shirley poultry house on the property. The body was found by Mrs. Shirley as she was going from the poultry house to the residence past the fish pond. Dr. Clancy Bassett, Boone county coroner said Resuscitation was attempted at Witham hospital but the boy was probably dead when found, the coroner said. The boy was apparently playing by the pound and fell in The pond is about three feet deep. Survivors include, besides the parents, a sister, Shirley Ann, three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Helms and Girt Doyle; a great grandmother, Mrs. Minnie McIntyre, all of Lebanon, and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be at the Harold B. Lawler Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. L.P. Cooper of the First Evangelical United Brethren church officiating.
